Today we’re addressing what to do when you get ‘ghosted’.
This is a new term… Being ‘GHOSTED’ It’s when, you contact someone and you’ve had a few interactions and then they don’t respond to you anymore, it’s like they disappear and become a ghost.
Typically we hear about GHOSTING in a dating scenario… but isn’t sales similar to dating?
How do we prevent it?
It’s one of my big pet peeves. I’ll stop chasing you down if you don’t want my service, but just don’t go away. You know? That’s just me.
How do you handle a prospect that has ghosted you? You’re consistently following up with people. You’re letting them know that you’re there, that you want to have a conversation with them and that you have a solution to their problem, but they’re just not responding to you … like no response whatsoever.
Here are three tactics that you can use to get a response from that prospect somehow.
The first TIP is to send a breakup email. This is something that I love to do, and it’s part of the whole follow up, follow through process in my Impact Sales System.
Basically, you’re telling them, “Hey. I’ve tried to reach you. Obviously it’s not a great time. I’m gonna go ahead and close out your file, and when you’re ready, just contact me.”
At that point, if somebody’s really interested, they’re like, “Oh. Shoot. I’ve been meaning to call you, and it’s slipped my mind, whatever. It’s not a priority.” Right? That’s a really great way of just kind of jump starting.
It’s not rude. It’s just, “Hey. I got better things to do,” is basically what you’re saying. Right? But you care about them, and you want to help them with their problem, but maybe it’s not a good time right now for them. When it is, give me a call. I’ll be here. Then of course you want to keep them on a drop marketing campaign, where you’re maybe sending them information every once in a while.
The SECoND tactic that you can do to get people to call you back is have another team member contact them. It could be your administrative assistant, another team member or partner in the business, who send them an email, text or call with a message that states, “Hey. Tom (your name not mine) asked me to give you a call and see if you’re still interested in X, Y, Z,” or send them an email, text, what have you.
Sometimes having a change of face, somebody else make that contact, will do all the difference in the world, and they’ll say, “Oh. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I wanna talk to you. I just didn’t like talking to Tom,” whatever the case may be.
The THIRD way that you can try this is to find them on social media … it could be Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter. Then send them a direct message. Maybe phone calls, emails and text messaging is not their primary way of communicating. We just really never know that. Maybe they love to be on Facebook Messenger. Just send them a really quick Facebook message and see if you get a response from that.
So, those are three ways that you can combat being ghosted. I hope this helped you in both your dating life, as well as your profession life, and you’re getting value out of these videos.
