Tragic Stories Sell?

My name is Tom Jackobs from tomjackobs.com.  If you haven’t already please check out my site and videos.

Tragic stories move audiences but so do heartfelt and uplifting stories.  A common story I tell is when I was four years old. I put together a business plan to build a two-tower hotel and resort called Sunnyside Resort and Hotel.  I used craft paper and crayons to draw up the two towers complete with an adjoining bridge, spa and restaurant. Even as a young boy I had the entrepreneurial spirit!  It’s not a tragic story, but a cute and uplifting one. It creates an impact with the audience I am speaking to. The visuals of my orginal drawings help drive the story home.

Create your own hero’s journey.  Star Wars is the perfect hero’s journey tale.  One of the exercises I explain on alwaysbesellingsystem.com is to tell the hero’s journey through Yoda’s eyes.  Thinking about a story from different angles help you highlight different aspects of the story helping you flesh it out more.

Look from different points of view. It doesn’t always have to be a tragic story, it can be a very uplifting and moving story, as well. Take people on a little journey through that whole process and you will be amazed at the comments that you get back from the audiences after.
