In a previous post, I talked about creating your dream 100 list. Once you’ve compiled your list, and made a warm connection with them, the second step is to engage with them so that you’re giving first.
Many people are always being asked for something. How do you usually react when somebody says, “Hey, can you give me five bucks? Can you buy this from me? Can you do this for me?” It usually doesn’t go over very well, right? You might actually do it for them, but how does that usually feel? On the other hand, when someone offers to do something for you, it feels a lot better on both sides.
I love to help others out first without expecting anything in return, and when it does come back, that’s awesome! You want to make sure you engage with your list the best possible way you can.
Here are a few ways you can engage with your list:
- Treat them to coffee or lunch or find out when you can get together and ask them questions like “What are your goals in your business? What are you trying to accomplish, and how can I help you?”
Maybe that’s making a connection with somebody else that you know. Maybe you’re known as the connector and you can connect them with other people, but you have to have that conversation and find out what their goals are, what they’re looking to accomplish, and then see how you can help them out and actually do it. Doing this will go a long way!
- Follow up with them and ask questions like “Did that help?” or “Was that useful for you?” Then find out how your services can help them with their goals as well.
You might want to ask some pointed questions to figure out if they’re actually a good candidate for you. If you’ve done your research ahead of time and have already identified that they would be a good candidate for your product or service, then of course you need to figure out how that fits in to their current goals and determine how you can help solve any problems they may be having.
You always want to have a giving heart. Give, give, give, give, give and then ask. That’s how I operate with my business as well.
