This week we’re talking about five tips on becoming a sales ninja in your fitness business. Even if you don’t have a business yet but you think you have an idea that you want to promote, this is for you.
One of my first sales jobs was with Cutco knives. I was miserable at it. I just didn’t have what I have now, a structure. Even though they provided that for me, I just wasn’t in the right mindset to actually take it on. Sales is definitely a mindset game all of the time. Now, over the last eight years of owning my own business, I’ve realized that it just doesn’t happen until a sale is made. So, you have to be very good at it. Here are the five things that I’ve learned.
Number one, it’s not what you say, it’s how you say it. You can say that a couple different ways — “Hey, it’s not what you say, it’s how you say it.” Or, “You’re doing an awesome job, would you like that in blue or beige?” It’s not what you say, it’s how you say it to get the message across.
Number two, it’s all about the prospect. It’s not about you, it’s about them, their wants, and their needs and you got to solve it.
Number three is, discover what that prospect’s problem is and then have a solution for it. A lot of times, they don’t know what their problem is and you need to bring that to the forefront so you can bring a solution. That is absolutely critical because, without a problem, it’s virtually impossible to establish value.
Number four is, follow a script which converts. Don’t make it up as you go. You need a script. I have a script. When I’m making phone calls, I have a script in front of me. It’s not that I read it word for word, and I don’t expect people to read things word for word. You might get tripped up on that call, but you have a script and you know where to get back on track.
Number five is, be yourself. Don’t try to be somebody else, just be you. Be authentic and people will trust you and want to do business with you. Because when it really comes down to it, people aren’t necessarily buying the things, they’re buying the people behind the things and the problems that they solve.
Those are your five steps to becoming a sales ninja. To recap, number one, it’s not what you say, it’s how you say it. Number two, it’s all about the prospect, and what their wants and needs are. Number three, discover what the problems are and solve them with your solution. Number four, follow a script and make sure that it converts. Number five, be yourself.
