Every so often you may find yourself slipping from your business routine and pretty soon you notice that you’re not as productive as you were. It happens. One way to keep on track is to schedule your day. It’s best to do it the day before because the more it sits in your head the less likely you’re able to sleep at night. When your brain realizes it’s all down on paper, you’re not going to forget it, so it’s not going to dwell on it.
So the first thing is to list is all out. It’s okay to list out personal stuff as well because the second step you’re going to do is take those pieces and create categories that make sense. Then decide which ones you can delegate.
After I do my morning routine, I look at my calendar and I see what hard appointments that I have and then I’ll start to schedule blocks of time. I typically schedule 50 minutes and then I use a ten-minute transition where I get up and walk around. I socialize. I might go into the gym floor and do a little exercise.
To recap:
- Get all your to-do tasks listed on paper.
- Categorize them, or put them in chunks that make sense.
- Decide what you can delegate.
- In the morning when you’re deciding what to do for that day, schedule your chunks of time. Of course, you have your appointments and things like that that are already on your calendar, but then you have some white space on your calendar. You need to fill that white space.
Be very specific about what you’re going to do. If you don’t finish it, it’s okay to carry over for the next day. Stick with those times and you’ll feel so much more productive.
