Today I want to talk about how to create freedom in your business. If you’re a business operator, you can’t take time away or nothing gets done and you don’t get paid. Having employees, a process, and procedures creates freedom in your business.
When I hire someone, I have an on-boarding process. Employees can go through a book and learn how to answer the phone, how to get voice mail, how to log in to the computer, how to send an email, how to respond to certain emails, how to talk to clients when they first come in. All of that is documented, including scripts. It’s something that I’ve been working on for the last seven years — creating procedures so I can take days off. I called the how-to-manual the how-do-I-manual because I would get questions like “How do I…” — fill in the blank. I realized I needed a process so if I’m not there, procedures still get done. If you keep all that stuff up in your head, you’ll be the only one doing the work and that, my friends, is no fun.
My goal for you is to think about the top ten questions that people ask you at work. Write down, step by step, exactly how you do every task. Document it, and then hire somebody to do it for you. It could even be somebody virtual. It’s not that difficult. In fact, I have about hundred different process and procedures that I’m going to be packaging up and making available to people like you.
