Employees are very important for you. Here are some tips on how to bring a new employee onboard so they love you from day one.Have everything ready for them on the first day. Their workstation, desk, phone, passwords, all that needs to be set up and ready to go. It shows that you have your stuff together, and you’re able to provide for that employee in a proper way.

Fill out all employee paperwork first. Go through it with them so they understand exactly what they’re signing up for. I have a little checklist of all the different pieces that we need to do for new employees. It has everything in it so I can quickly go through and make sure that we’re managing all the paperwork effectively.
Make it a light day. Introduce them to everybody. Show them where the emergency exits and the bathrooms are. Go through all the goals of the company. Get them connected with their team, if there is a team. Get them oriented to their workstation. Let them settle in.
At the end of the first day, go through their job description, and make sure that expectations are set for each week. Set up the expectations for that first week that they’re going to do x, y, and z. Then next week we’ll do the next thing. Build upon the job description and all the process and procedures that you have in place. Hopefully, you do. If not, we need to chat about how to do that.
Lastly, don’t throw new employees into the fire and expect them to survive. They’re going to get burnt, and you’re probably going to get burnt in the process as well. That’s why you want to set up little wins along the way, so they build their confidence and get better.
Allow a new employee to feel their way into the business and get little wins, then the snowball effect will actually take hold. They’ll get faster and even more productive. Be a patient at first, because it doesn’t happen overnight.
